Special FX & Life Casting

Creating lifelike silicone body parts for special effects (and for medical prosthetics and orthotics) depends on two key elements - the ability to mould and cast with rubber and the creative and artistic skill of finishing the prop so that it “comes to life.” The first can be relatively simple to follow; the second requires a little bit of talent that can be acquired over time!

The process of taking casts from people is known as lifecasting and today there are a range of safe materials designed specifically for this purpose. Silicone moulds can be taken directly from a person’s skin – their face, arm, torso or even the whole body.
